Sculpey Alphabet moulds can be used to mould letters for children’s name
plaques. These have dozens of uses such as for party name place markers or
room door plaques. You can also glue them above coat pegs, onto box lids
and even onto larger toys such as a toy car ride-on.
Name Plaque
Roll
out a sheet of turquoise clay and lay it on a tile. Cut out a rectangle
with a wavy cutter. Use the Sculpey Alphabet mould to make the letters of
the child’s name and arrange lightly on the rectangle.
Decorate with slices cut from flower and leaf millefiori canes (here's
how the flower is made and here's how a leaf is made!). Arrange the
cane slices onto the plaque around the name. When you are happy with the
design, press all the pieces down to secure.
Bake the piece on the tile for about 30 minutes or according to the clay
manufacturer’s instructions. Ease it off the tile when cool.
Party Place Name Marker
Use the Sculpey Alphabet mould to make different
coloured letters of the child’s name. Mould a party hat and a balloon from
the Sculpey Party Time mould (or other pieces of your choice).
Roll out a sheet of yellow clay and lay it on a tile. Cut out a rectangle
with a wavy blade and remove the excess clay.
Lay on the child’s name and the moulded pieces. The balloon has a little
piece of wire applied for a string (be sure to trap the top of the wire
under the balloon to secure it). When you are happy with the arrangement,
press the pieces down to secure them.
Bake the piece on the tile for about 30 minutes or according to the clay
manufacturer’s instructions. Ease it off the tile when cool.
Experimenting
with Finishes
The baked moulded pieces can be painted with acrylic paint. For best
results, first de-grease the surface by brushing with alcohol (methylated
spirits). You can varnish the pieces for a shiny effect.
Try brushing pieces moulded in black with metallic or Pearl Ex powders
before baking for really glittery results.
Use PVA glue to attach the moulded pieces to card or paper. Use superglue
to attach the pieces to wood, plastic, magnets, brooch backs or anything
metal. Two part epoxy glues also give a very firm bond onto metal, wood or
plastic. |
