Art Clay Silver 950 clay is the choice for professional jewellery makers. Its high strength, surface hardness and purity allows you to create beautiful designs that normal Art Clay Silver cannot accommodate for. It is 60% stronger than regular Art Clay Silver, with a purity after firing of Silver 950. This means your jewellery is eligible to be sent to an assay office, and can be stamped as ‘sterling silver’.
The high strength of Art Clay Silver 950 allows you to create thinner, more delicate jewellery such as open ended rings and bracelets. The moulding and drying process is the same as regular Art Clay Silver, however please allow for a little extra shrinkage after firing. Shrinkage is approximately 11-13%.
Art Clay Silver 950 must be fired in an electric kiln with temperature control. Do not use a gas oven or blow torch.
How to fire the silver clay after moulding and drying:
- Put your dry silver clay creation in a room temperature kiln, and set the kiln temperature to 500°C (932°F).
- Ramp up until 500°C (932°F) and hold the temperature for 30 minutes.
- Set the kiln to 870°C (1598°F) and hold the temperature for 60 minutes.
- Turn off the kiln and wait until the kiln temperature drops to 200°C (392°F).
- Take the fired silver clay out of them kiln and wait until it cools down completely (or leave it until the kiln
temperature drops to room temperature) before polishing or burnishing.
