How to use Deka Transparent Glass Paints:
Deka Transparent has been designed for surface decoration. It is not recommended for use on items that need daily washing such as plates and cups, and is not weatherproof. It is best used for items that require infrequent washing without detergent. If painting drinking glasses or table wear, paint only on the outside of the vessel (plates on the outer rim) and clean by rinsing under cold running water.
This solvent-based paint air dries hard within 3 days and can be hardened further in a domestic oven. Please take care when using this flammable product; keep away from naked flames and use only in a well-ventilated room. Do not inhale fumes, ensure good ventilation, keep out of reach of children, and avoid skin and eye contact.
- Stir well before use.
- Ensure surfaces to be painted are completely dry and thoroughly cleaned of dust and fingerprints. Detergents may leave a residue, wiping over with White spirit will help remove this and any remaining grease or dirt.
- For relief-like contours, apply Deka Outline Paste first and allow it to dry thoroughly before applying the paint. Use Deka Outline Paste to create stained glass panel effects, the raised outline will prevent the paint from spreading.
- Apply Deka Transparent Glass Paints with a soft, dry hair brush. If the paint is applied thickly, an even colour flow and good lightfastness are guaranteed. Lightfastness is affected if the paint is applied thinly or if it is heavily diluted.
- All shades can be mixed with each other and can be thinned by a maximum of 5% with Deka Transparent Thinner; use Deka Transparent Extender to achieve lighter shades without losing lightfastness.
- If subsequent layers of paint are to be applied, Deka Transparent Glass Paints should be allowed to dry for 48 hours and heat cured between each application.
- Allow the freshly painted objects to dry thoroughly in a place as dust-free as possible at room temperature. The paint is surface-dry after 1 hour and completely dry after 3 days
- Clean brushes and other tools with Deka Transparent Thinner after use.
Heat Curing Deka Transparent Glass Paints:
Heat curing will increase adhesion and scratch resistance of these paints. This can be done in a domestic oven. Only objects that are not heat-sensitive can be baked. Items like acrylic glass and plastic cannot be baked.
- Allow painted objects to dry completely for 3 days and place in a cold oven.
- Heat to 120°C, turn off the oven after 30 minutes and allow the objects to cool down inside.
- Despite heat curing, Deka Transparent is not resistant to acids and mechanical stress.
