Derwent Inktense Blocks are water soluble coloured blocks of solid ink which can be blended together and intensify when water is applied. The ink marks become permanent and can be used in combination with other media to create a variety of stunning effects. Inktense blocks are perfect for large expressive pieces, splashes and loose marks.
Inktense products make an ideal companion for watercolour artists who like to work directly with a brush on all sizes of artwork. They can be used like pans of paint, applied directly to wet or dry paper and use on their side to cover large areas quickly. While watercolours are transparent and “washable”, water-soluble Inktense become more vibrant when wet and the marks are permanent.
These pencils and blocks also offer exciting possibilities for textile artists. Because the ink is permanent, it can be used directly on fabric; designs can be washed at 30°C while the fabric retains a soft, natural feel. For silk painting, a gutta outliner can be used to define areas and prevent the ink from spreading.
