Potato Dextrin is derived from potato starch and is often used to resist out large areas which will shrink and crack as it dries, creating lace like patterns and crackle lines – similar to batik effects. The dextrin is not suitable for immersion dye baths as it is water soluble. Fabrics should be first scoured and then soaked in soda ash and dried prior to direct application with Procion MX fibre reactive dyes.
The dextrin is easy to wash out, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to wax.
