Washing machine dyes for natural fabrics made from cellulose including cotton, linen, viscose, and bamboo.
These fabric dyes are for use in the washing machine and available in a choice of 20 wash-fast and light-fast colours. Each pack contains 25g dye powder and 50g dye fixer, enough to dye up to 500g dry weight of fabric.
There are a number of variables which will affect the final colour of the item to be dyed using Deka Wash & Go washing machine dyes:
- The dyeing temperature must be at least 40ºC, and 60ºC to achieve the maximum black.
- Items for dyeing should all be free from sizing, dirt, grease and fabric softener. Follow the Prepared For Dyeing instructions here.
- The base colour of the fabric will affect the final colour; a yellow t-shirt may give a shade of green if dyed using a blue dye (see our Blog post about Basic Colour Theory to understand further).
- 500g of dry fabric weight will dye to full colour using 1 bag of dye and dye fixer plus 250g salt in a 5kg capacity washing machine.
- 500g of dry fabric weight will dye lighter and pastel colours using half a bag each of dye and dye fixer plus 250g salt in a 5kg capacity washing machine.
- Fabrics with mixed fibres of more than 50% cellulose can be dyed but colour results will not be so deep.
- The washing machine dyes are not suitable for dyeing synthetics, silk or wool. Also, be aware of items containing synthetic threads used on seams and to construct garments; these threads will not take up the dye colour.
