The H Dupont Classique Silk Dyes are formulated from Acid dyes. The dyes are suspended in a solution and are made ready to paint with. Dupont dyes give the most vibrant colour results when painted on silk fabric and are set using the heat from steam.
Use a gutta outliner to prevent colours from running into each other or a primer to treat the silk fabric prior to painting it. Primer (or anti-spread) will slow the spreading of the dyes and give the impression of water colours on paper. A very popular choice for silk painting.
The colour from silk dyes does not affect the handle and drape of the silk fabric whereas a silk paint (which contains a binder) will stiffen it slightly.
You can learn about how to steam set dyes from our Blog post.
Don’t forget to take a look at the silk fabrics. Choose from ready-made scarves or silk by the metre from a selection of silk weights.
Just starting out? You will need a selection of tools or prefer to use iron fix silk paints.
