Needle felting has grown in popularity in recent years. Felting needles are very sharp, with tiny notches along the shaft. These angled barbs catch fibres and push them into the mass, where they remain as the needle is withdrawn. With each movement, fibres become increasingly entangled and compacted. Needle felting is ideal for sculpting three-dimensional forms such as animals and flowers, as well as adding fine detail. Our felting needles range from 25 gauge for general shaping (ideal for British wools) to 40 gauge for finer fibres and detailed work.

Wet felting allows the creation of hollow forms using a resist placed between layers of fibre. Simple shapes such as bags or slippers can be made using everyday materials like plastic bags or bubble wrap, while larger forms can be shaped over bowls or stones. The durable, heat-resistant Hat Shapers are available in a range of styles and are used as hat blocks to shape the hat from felt.
