Cotton linters and Lokta pulp sheets for hand paper making. These linters are ready to use for papermaking. They must be torn up, soaked in water overnight and then beaten into pulp using a blender or hollander beater. Each fibre will bring a different property to your paper as will any chemical or assistants added during the papermaking process.
Soda Ash is used to help dissolve the non-cellulose parts of a plant so that the remaining bast fibres can be made into a pulp for papermaking. Fibres are cooked in a solution of water and Soda ash to dissolve the non-cellulose part of the fibre. The remaining fibre is then chopped up and beaten into a pulp using a blender. This process is necessary for non-prepared papermaking fibres such as flax, bamboo, onion skins etc.
