Putty rubbers (also known as kneaded erasers) can be shaped by hand for precision removal of graphite pencil, charcoal and pastel. The rubbers can be used for creating highlights and patterning by absorbing the media from the surface.

Although kneaded erasers do not wear away like other erasers, they do become exhausted. Replace if the eraser begins to transfer marks back onto the surface.
