Speedball Diazo Photo Emulsion for use with photo sensitizer to create stencils on the screen printing mesh from fine detailed images such as film positives and drawings on acetate film.
The screen is coated with the sensitised emulsion and allowed to dry in a dark room. The image is then placed on the screen which is then positioned below a UV light source, either from a bulb or bright sunshine. The emulsion which is covered by the dark, opaque areas of the image will remain water-soluble and the exposed areas will harden. The hardened emulsion will then act as the stencil (or resist). This is the area of the screen mesh that will prevent the screen printing ink from passing through.
Screen printing mesh can be reclaimed after use and this must be done as soon as possible. First wash away any ink residue with a soft brush, water and detergent, then remove the exposed emulsion with an emulsion remover.
