Dyeing Clothes of the Common People in Elizabethan England Edited by Stuart Peachey
This book identifies the colours used in the clothing of the common people between 1558 and 1660 using inventories, wills, pictures and surviving examples. It then examines the dyestuffs used to create these colours, the equipment used and the methods.
It also includes photographs of the dyed fabric and garments produced in a purpose built replica of a period dye house using the dyes and methods of the time, concluding with information to help the reader replicate the colours themselves.
