The Fibrecrafts Blue Printing Kit includes everything for experimenting with cyanotype: 200g ferric ammonium citrate, 100g potassium ferricyanide, 50 x 90cm silk fabric, 50 x 150cm cotton fabric and a detailed instruction leaflet. Create beautiful photograms, a heliographic sun light printing process, which produces a stunning blue print on fabrics and paper.
The chemical names sound alarming but are fairly common place and have no significant adverse effects on us or the environment. The main iron salt, ferric ammonium citrate, is used as a food additive (potential hazards are listed in the pack) while the other, potassium ferricyanide, sounds nasty but is only likely to cause problems if mixed with strong acids. The instructions include advice on safe use.
Chemicals should be handled with care and sensible precautions should be taken
