The Schacht Matchless spinning wheel is an outstanding and distinctive wheel that works beautifully for the spinner, offering the choice of double drive, Scotch tension or bobbin lead. The 49.5cm drive wheel and flyer shaft are supported by self-aligning bronze bearings for precise action, and each flyer is individually balanced. The bobbins and flyer whorls are trued on centre for long-lasting, reliable service.

For the Schacht Matchless spinning wheel, the three drive configurations are:
Double Drive — the drive band drives the flyer and bobbin together, with the difference in pulley diameters providing the tension.
Scotch Tension — the drive band turns the flyer, while a separate brake band controls the bobbin tension.
Bobbin Lead — the drive band turns the bobbin, with the flyer following; this is essentially the reverse arrangement to Scotch tension.
The wheel comes with a tensioned Lazy Kate, four regular bobbins, an adjustable carrying strap, a threading hook and two drive bands. Also included with each wheel are a medium speed flyer whorl and a high speed flyer whorl; four additional whorl sizes are available to purchase separately. The whorls incorporate two grooves for different spinning ratios. Here are the ratios for the whorls when used on the Matchless spinning wheel:

Each wheel is fully assembled and tested by Schacht to ensure perfect alignment and optimum spinning performance. Certain components are then disassembled for safe packaging.
