1000m spool (weighing approx. 10g). This monofilament yarn (90 denier equivalent) shrinks by 40% on placing in water at 40°C, and dissolves completely at 70°C.

It can support a low strength warp or weft yarn, stabilise open weaves and create accurately placed holes. The low temperature for dissolving means that even fine woven silk will not lose lustre. Complex textures can be developed by allowing the yarn to shrink, or two and three dimensional structures assembled for working before removing all traces of the original yarn superstructure.

For dyers, Shibori and tie dye techniques no longer need many hours of careful unstitching. Just wash in hot water after a cold water dye process (indigo or Procion dyes) and the fabric is freed.

The thread is fine enough to used with a needle or it can be threaded onto a sewing machine to allow experimentation in embroidery techniques and detailed shibori work.
