Glimakra Standard Countermarch 10 Shaft Weaving Loom, weaving width 100cm (39″) with 10 treadles.
Drawing on the Scandinavian tradition and Glimakra’s many years of experience, this weaving loom has the design strength for professional rug weaving. It is built in top quality Swedish Pine with a varnished finish and supplied direct from Sweden.
The looms accept long warp lengths allowing for all types of weaving especially high warp tension rugs. The open sided construction gives maximum accessibility during tie up and threading.
In a countermarch tie-up the shafts are raised or lowered independently of each other as compared to the counterbalance tie-up, where the shafts are balanced against each other.
Since the shafts may be raised and lowered independently, the shed will be even and better – this is an advantage in any weaving. This is more significant in multi-shaft weaving, when using delicate material, an uneven number of shafts, a narrow warp in a wide loom or with uneven distribution of warp threads in the shafts.
When ordering your loom please specify which countermarch system you would prefer; whether it be horizontal or vertical:
- With the horizontal countermarch, the cords to the long lamms go down through the middle of your warp and the hanger cords slip onto the end of the shaft bars. There is more resistance to the treadles when opening the shed, which snaps closed upon release of the treadle.
- With the vertical countermarch, the cords to the long lamms go down the outside of the loom, avoiding contact with the warp threads. This means there is less resistance and the shed opens with less pressure on the treadle. As the hanger cords are attached further away from the end of the stick it provides the shaft bar with a more even support.
The loom comes with Weaving Bench, cloth protection board (in front of the breast beam) and Warp Sticks. To tie up the loom you will need to order 1 Texsolv tie up set per 4 shafts, plus 8 packs of Texsolv Split Anchor Pegs. A set of heddles, a minimum off 400 heddles per shaft, and a reed are also required to get you started. Floor space required: 181cm x 160cm, height 175cm.
This countermarch loom is available with many variations and adaptations for specialised weaving techniques. It is designed so that you can equipped it with a fly shuttle beater, double warp beam, sectional beam, loom extension, drawloom, etc. and these can be added at any time.
