Eri Silk Cocoons from the Ailanthus Silk Moth which feeds on caster oil. The silk worm has long vacated these cocoons which can be degummed and then fluffed out ready for dyeing, spinning, silk paper making or felting. The cocoon does not unwind in a continuous filament as with other silks but produces a dense fibre not unlike cotton. This short staple fibre is heavier than other silks and can be blended with other fibres to produce pleasing yarns. It has excellent thermal properties for keeping out the cold, yet it is cool to wear in hotter temperatures.
Leave the fibre undyed in its natural colour or dye the silk using acid dyes to get the best colours.
Bag contains 20 silk cocoons.
