The natural coloured wool tops include fibres from British rare breeds including Wensleydale, Bluefaced Leicester, English Downland, Cheviot, Jacob, Herdwick, and Suffolk.
The finer, softer wool fibres, such as Merino wool and Bluefaced Leicester, will felt readily using the wet felting technique and high detail can be achieved with a felting needle. Coarser wools, which include many of the British wools, are more readily felted using a felting needle.
Good to know when choosing a fibre: Staple refers to the fibre length given in mm. Micron (or mic) indicates the thickness of the fibre given in microns (one millionth of a metre or 1/1000mm), the lower the number, the finer the fibre. i.e. the finest wool fibre on this website is Merino wool which has a micron measurement of 23 mic and a staple length between 75 and 80mm
