This Habotai 8mm silk fabric is supplied undyed and white. It has a lovely sheen and is slightly heavier and less translucent than the lighter weight Pongee silk fabric.
Habotai is a smooth plain woven silk fabric ideal for silk painting techniques, hand dyeing with Acid dyes or Natural dyes, Shibori using indigo dyes, tie-dyeing and Batik. The fine weave makes the silk fabric particularly effective for printing fine details (especially with Cyanotype chemicals and Jacquard Solar Fast). One momme is equivalent to approximately 4.34g per square metre (gsm). The higher the momme, the heavier, more durable and generally less translucent the fabric becomes.
