250ml bottles of H Dupont Classic dyes; these steam fix dyes will colour both silk and wool and can be used neat (or diluted for pastel colours) for all silk painting techniques, for airbrushing, and Batik. Combined with a thickener (Epaississant) they can be used for screen printing. They are fully intermixable to create an infinite range of colours. Simply dilute with water to lighten the colours on the white silk fabric.
The proven formula of the H Dupont dyes gives the most vibrant colour results on silk fabric and is a most popular choice for silk painters. The silk fibre absorbs the dye, which does not contain the binders found in silk paints. It does not affect the reflective qualities, the feel, or the drape of silk fabric; it merely enhances it.
The dye bath instructions will depend on the shade of the colour required and the weight of material. An easy recipe to follow is 1 to 5% white vinegar and 0.5 to 15% of H Dupont dye colour added to the water.
The colours are set by applying the heat from steam and will become permanent, light fast and washable. See How to steam fix silk dyes on the hob. See also How to fix H Dupont Classic dyes in a microwave.
Before painting or dyeing silk or wool, it is recommended to Prepare for Dyeing by removing any dirt or grease that may have been transferred during handling.
The extended choice of pre-defined colours from H Dupont can be requested to special order (please contact us for further information).
