Fibre reactive Procion MX dyes have been formulated for use on cellulose fibres such as cotton, linen and viscose and soda ash is used to set them in a cold water dye bath. The low dyeing temperature makes these dyes ideal for use in Batik work because they will not melt the wax designs on the fabric. Although the dyes are best used on natural plant fibres, such as cotton, viscose and linen, they can be used for dyeing silk and wool and give adequate colour results. However, we do recommend using Acid dyes for animal fibres such as wool, silk, cashmere, mohair and feathers as the dyes have prooved to be the most effective for protein fibres.
